Elden Ring Runes Guide
Effective rune farming is one of the keystones of Elden Ring, and this guide aims to cover various methods for gathering this precious currency throughout the Lands Between.
Elden Ring demi-god bosses drop unique items called Great Runes that grant powerful buffs when equipped. Simply acquiring such an item is not enough – activation must occur at a Site of Grace before being activated and used effectively.
Rune Arcs
Elden Ring offers Rune Arcs as consumable items that help strengthen a player’s Great Rune, providing them with a powerful boost that could mean the difference between defeating an impossible boss and endless enemies.

Elden Ring offers players a formidable challenge in the form of six main bosses to defeat, and players may wish to reserve a Rune Arc for key battles against demigods. As Great Runes can only be activated once per battle and require another Arc to activate again, players who die during its activation must use another Rune Arc in order to restore its effects if any become active again after dying while its effects were active – saving these Rune Arcs is important as you may need it later on against demigods!
Great Runes
As one of the rewards for defeating each mainline boss in Elden Ring, players will receive a Great Rune as one of their first rewards. These unique items provide powerful buffs when equipped, but must first be activated in order to take full advantage of their effects.
To activate their Great Runes, players must visit the Divine Tower associated with their boss from which they obtained it. While most towers can be reached quickly through a teleporter chest trap, others require completion of Crumbling Farum Azula quest before becoming accessible.
Elden Ring features twelve Great and three Mending Runes; these can be used to unlock various endings and meet special conditions. Ashes of War
Ashes of War are weapon augmentations that alter a weapon’s damage profile and scaling. Blacksmiths or certain NPCs offer them as weapon modifications; each requires a certain number of runes for use – players may add their own runes to further increase its effects.

Ash can be obtained by defeating the Lion Guardian in Fort Gael in Caelid, who can be found roaming its outer courtyard. Furthermore, Teardrop Scarabs have also been known to drop it from their push of glowing white balls in Lands Between and it may also drop from Teardrop Scarabs during Lands Between exploration – providing plenty of this material for use on polearms (except Claymore) and small armaments.
Scarabs
Scarabs were once revered for their magical powers. Believed to symbolize the sun’s rejuvenating forces, scarabs represented rebirth of the dead every morning like beetles emerging from hibernation. One such scarab may even bear Thuthmosis III Men Kheper Re’s name on it!
Elden ring runes offers another useful talisman called the Golden Scarab Talisman to boost players’ rune gains from defeating enemies and gain quick level up faster: its effects include increasing rune rewards when defeated, making this item essential for fast levelling up.
This talisman can be unlocked by defeating both Cleanrot Knights in Caelid’s Abandoned Cave area – located east of Limgrave’s Smoldering Wall Site of Grace – during an intense fight in Caelid’s Abandoned Cave region of Caelid. While this battle might prove challenging, once players have defeated these knights it will pay dividends as its Gold Scarab provides the greatest rune farming buff available anywhere in game.
