A Memorable Evening at Heliot Steak House in Soho

Planning a road trip can be an exciting but daunting task, and that’s exactly what Roz, Marcos, and I were doing over a few drinks at Thirst Bar. With our California itinerary mapped out and a productive evening behind us, Roz and I decided to treat ourselves to dinner at Heliot Steak House, a renowned dining spot nestled inside the Hippodrome Casino in Soho.

A Warm Welcome at the Hippodrome Casino

Upon arriving at the Hippodrome Casino, we were greeted by one of the friendly doormen who, much to our delight, asked us both for ID. It’s always a nice surprise when someone assumes you might be younger than your actual age! For those planning a visit, it’s important to remember that entry to the casino is restricted to those 18 and over, so don’t forget to bring identification.

Neither Roz nor I are regulars at casinos, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect. To our surprise, the atmosphere was more casual than we anticipated, with patrons dressed in a range of attire. We couldn’t help but wonder if the relaxed vibe would reflect the standard of the food. After all, a steakhouse in the middle of a bustling casino is not where we would typically expect gourmet dining.

A Glimpse into Heliot Steak House

Making our way up to Heliot Steak House, we were greeted by a welcoming host who invited us to wait at the bar while our table was being prepared. One of the most impressive features of the steakhouse is its view, which overlooks the vibrant, lively scene of the Hippodrome below. The high ceilings and the busy Friday night atmosphere set the perfect backdrop for an evening out in Soho.

We settled at the bar, menus in hand, and were promptly offered cocktails to start. While I admit to being a bit of a cocktail connoisseur, I wasn’t expecting much given the setting. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Roz opted for a refreshing Gin Lane, while I, being a whisky enthusiast, couldn’t resist the Gentlemen’s Julep. Both cocktails hit the spot, and our anticipation for the meal began to build.

A Feast to Remember

Our waiter, Fabio, soon arrived to recommend a wine to pair with our steaks. Following his suggestion, we chose a bottle of Berry Bros. & Rudd Good Ordinary Claret, which turned out to be the perfect accompaniment to our meal.

Since Heliot is known for its steak, we decided to stay true to its reputation. I went for the fillet steak, while Roz chose the rib-eye. Alongside our steaks, we couldn’t resist indulging in a variety of decadent sides. The highlights included a succulent lobster tail, creamy sautéed spinach, and a millionaire’s mac & cheese – a luxurious twist on a classic dish, featuring poached duck egg and black truffle. To top it all off, we ordered a portion of crispy triple-cooked chips.

By the time we finished, we were utterly stuffed. But being the food lovers that we are, we couldn’t resist ordering dessert. Roz chose the baked Alaska, while I opted for the raspberry millefeuille. Both desserts were divine, with the millefeuille being so irresistible that I ended up finishing what Roz couldn’t.

A Satisfying Conclusion

With our stomachs full of the finest comfort food imaginable, we left Heliot Steak House more than satisfied. It’s safe to say we wouldn’t be eating for the next week! The quality of the food and the service far exceeded our expectations, particularly given the casual vibe of the casino.

For anyone looking for a fantastic place to dine in Soho, especially if you’re in the mood for steak, Heliot Steak House is definitely worth a visit. And if you do go, make sure to ask for Fabio – his recommendations were spot on, and his service made our evening all the more enjoyable.

Heliot Steak House offers more than just great food; it provides a unique and vibrant dining experience that combines the excitement of the casino with the elegance of fine dining.
